Zoo Teen Volunteers Help Ready Paws On

On Saturday January 24, teen volunteers in the Zoo Teen program lent a hand to get the Zoo’s new Paws On exhibit ready to open February 14. The main task for the day was moving a huge pile of sand to fill up the new “turtle beach” play area. Other teens worked on painting play structures and leveling the new contact yard.

The Zoo Teen program is composed of about 70 teenagers who commit to volunteering a minimum of one day a month for at least a year. Teens perform a variety of tasks at the Zoo including animal husbandry, kayaking, animal handling, and public education. Zoo Teens also volunteer their time for Zoo Camps, fundraisers, and special events. We appreciate the hard work our Zoo Teens put in every weekend and the extra effort they gave last Saturday.
